When styling this elopement, Bruna and I wanted to challenge the trend of eloping in epic locations and instead bring the ideas of a stunning elopement home to the great state of Texas. Our love for animals and wanting a unique element in the shoot led to our desire to incorporate alpacas in the elopement. From there, we discovered Nana’s Pacas, an alpaca ranch located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. What represents Texas hospitality better than a family-owned alpaca ranch?

Ellen, better known as “Nana” around the farm, and her veteran husband Tom were extremely kind and generous to share their time, ranch, and cute furry friends with us. They were actively involved in the shoot, taught us about where alpacas originate from and how they came to own 23 alpacas of their own (whom they love so much!). The alpacas had their annual shave a few days before the shoot, so they were looking fresh and feeling good! The fan favorite was Gus, who loves people and was a total ham in front of the camera.

To bring this bohemian elopement vision to life, we needed an actual couple with great chemistry and the ability to display a joyful and fun vibe with the alpacas. We found that in our models (an engaged couple who will be marrying this July!), Moriah and Caleb. We chose a color palette with pops of mustard, burgundy, and blush to compliment the many colors of the alpacas. Texture was an important element of our shoot, from the fur of the alpacas, the velvet in the flat lay styling to the suede, mustard shoes.

One of my favorite features from this shoot was the amazing ceremony macramé backdrop that was designed and handmade by the florist, Ashley form TR Floral. Another aspect about our shoot that was incredibly important to us was that all vendors involved were conscious of the alpaca’s comfort during the shoot. We were fortunate that our alpaca friends enjoyed the elopement as much as we did! We hope that couples will view this styled shoot and be inspired to find unique and local elements they can include in their own wedding or elopement.
