Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
The wedding theme was a French Victorian garden inspired by our trip to Paris last summer. The gardens there were so beautiful, full of green shrubbery and topiary trees. I wanted to add some pops of color with blush and lavender flowers throughout. Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC We knew going into wedding planning we wanted a large venue to fit our large families. We are both from the same area and mostly all of our family resides in North Carolina. Although we wanted a large space we also wanted something very elegant and timeless. Prestonwood fit all of those requirements, and more! Prestonwood had a huge ballroom that could fit up 300+ guests, high ceilings, and beautiful chandeliers. We also heard very great things about the food and pastry chef so we were sold.
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Brandyn and I met 9 years ago during our freshman year at North Carolina State University. We had both been selected for a scholarship and during our small talk we realized we had so much in common. This included several mutual friends, students in the same chemistry class that semester, and even born and raised in the same city. Although I found him attractive, he was still in a relationship from high school so I never expected our newfound friendship to move further. A few years later a mutual friend persisted we give things a shot. Ever since our first date we were inseparable. After almost 3 years of dating our inseparable relationship would soon become long distance as I was beginning pharmacy school and Brandyn starting his career in different states. With our busy schedules we made the most of our long distance relationship by finding flight deals and traveling the world together. One morning Brandyn called and stated he purchased tickets to Thailand which was quite a surprise! Throughout the culture enriching trip Brandyn was acting very strangely by not letting room service clean our room the entire time. On the last night of the trip, Brandyn planned dinner reservations. While I was getting ready for dinner he went downstairs to go “check” on the reservation. Little did he know he left me in the dark to get ready since the room key controlled the power(imagine me putting on makeup). Ten minutes later he came back up to the room to escort me to dinner. When we arrived to the restaurant our table was so romantic with rose petals and candles everywhere overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Phuket, Thailand. A photographer walked over to take our picture and Brandyn asked if we could take a few standing up. The moment he stood up and tears welled in his eyes as he looked at me everything made sense and I knew he was about to propose! The photographer caught the moment he proposed and took a few candid engagement shots as we enjoyed dinner. I was so happy to spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams. Brandyn later mentioned the reason he denied room service was to prevent anyone getting close to the ring. I was so happy to finally spend the rest of my life with the man of my dreams!
Let’s talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Creative Touch Events did all of the decorations. His creativity and vision turned the ballroom into an extraordinary masterpiece. All we did was describe our vision and he handled the rest!
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
When Brandyn ripped his pants during the garter removal! The funny part is he bought an extra pair of pants because he had a feeling he would rip them at some point during the reception.
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you’d like to share with other couples planning their day?
Don’t sweat the small things! Certain things you think you need or “have to have” aren’t as big as you think they are. Just enjoy the process and make sure to include your groom on the planning to try to incorporate some things that may want during the big day! Enjoy this stage of your relationship because it is a unique time that you won’t get back. Don’t try to get wrapped up in planning the wedding so much that you forget the reason why you two are together in the first place, it’s about the MARRIAGE not the WEDDING.
