How did you meet?  We met in middle school in band class. He played the saxophone and I played the clarinet. We attended different schools, but we had the same band instructor. She would combine both school bands for competitions and some concerts. We were close growing up, but lost contact at some point. 8 years ago we reconnected and began dating.

Engagement story: We went to Puerto Rico for my birthday. A month or so prior to our trip, he took me to Raleigh Diamond to look at rings and give him an idea of the type of engagement rings that I like. He mentioned on the way to the airport that morning he wanted us to go look at some other jewelry stores to be sure about the style I liked. I can spend hours in a jewelry store, so I was all for it. We spent 4 great days in Puerto Rico touring and eating and hanging out on the beach. The 5th day was my birthday—that morning on my birthday there was room service, when I answered the door I told them they had the wrong room (I did not order room service). William said he would handle it—to my surprise, they still laid out the breakfast on the table. There was a brown little box with a bow on it. I open the box and see its from Raleigh Diamond (where we looked at the rings) but it’s a pair of earrings…not a ring. Bummer. Later we rented a car, we did some shopping, came back and went to dinner, we stayed at the LaConcha Renaissance. The hotel had a casino, and after we lost some money (ha), we went up to the room and I am taking off my shoes—and I hear him walking to the room. He said “I didn’t want to do this on your actual birthday…” so he got down on one knee and proposed around 1:30am. Totally caught me by surprise. It was the exact ring I wanted, as well.

Your best/most memorable moment from your wedding day: Him lovingly caressing my hand during the ceremony.

Favorite part about your wedding: We loved our wedding favors. We had custom bride and groom caricature cookies made for our guests.

First dance song: Best Part by Daniel Ceasar ft. H.E.R then we flipped to All I Do Is Think of You by Troop (our song from when we were kids) toward the end.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day: You must have a coordinator for the day of the wedding. We planned everything ourselves, but having her there to make sure our day went as we envisioned is what allowed us to truly enjoy it. Make sure that your wedding party is full of people who support you, your union, and are there to make that day your best day ever. We have a great group of friends and family that brought such great energy and helped make this day so amazing for us.
