Paula & Michael: Durham, NC

Q: Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?

A: Michael and I met doing what we love best, traveling! We were both enjoying a cruise with our families not knowing that the Carnival Liberty would change our lives forever. Simply put he said that I caught his eye on the cruise and after that he had to meet me! He caught my eye as well as he is an identical twin, so I though I kept seeing him everywhere on the ship. One night he introduced himself and we were inseparable everyday of the trip after that.

Q: What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?

A: Our relationship is special first off because we survived living long distance. I was stationed in New jersey with the Airforce and he lived in North Carolina. We are the typical “Country boy meets City girl”! While dating Michael long distance I was able to see and experience his commitment to me, and I to him. I can remember the countless commutes to and from each state by car, plane, train, we had to be with each other, and wouldn’t let anything get in our way. After a few years of dating Michael made the decision to make the move to New Jersey for us to be together. He told his family “I’m not coming back without her”! I knew then that I really had something special and that he was the one I wanted to spend my life with.

Q: How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)

A: After a few years of dating Michael made the decision to make the move to New Jersey for us to be together. He told his family “I’m not coming back without her”! I knew then that I really had something special and that he was the one I wanted to spend my life with.

Q: Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?

A: So for the proposal Michael wanted to take it back to where it all started, the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. So yes we took another cruise with our families. At dinner one night, Michael had everyone there tell how they met their significant other and when it got to us I told my version of our story. When I was done Michael told the table how much I meant to him and that he couldn’t see himself without me. Next thing I know he was on a knee with a beautiful ring!

Q: We’re all about the bling… Tell us all about that ring!

A: To be specific, I have a Princess Brilliant cut diamond, with a halo and undercarriage of 48 diamonds. I absolutely love this ring! I have always told mike that I wanted a princess cut diamond, but he really out did himself. Mike told me he had trouble finding something for me because nothing seemed good enough. So he ended up sitting down with the jewelers and personally designing my ring. The great thing about that is I know literally no one else has my ring, so it is truly one of a kind. Also for him to put that much time and dedication in choosing a ring for me made me feel so special.
