Galveston can be the perfect place for a fun engagement session! And Raquel knew that she wanted that location for her and Matt’s session because of their love for the water. This super cute couple showed up looking super chic in their outfits, complimenting each other perfectly and really had no problem showing their love for each other in front of the camera! I know their December wedding in Houston is going to be one to remember!
Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
Matthew and I met through a mutual friend’s Mom. She just called both of us up and asked if we were seeing anybody and that she had the perfect person for each of us. Neither one of us wanted to really go on the date but we couldn’t let her down so we did. We ended up having a blast at Dave and Busters where I (Raquel) won all of the games we played haha. From there the rest was history. We wanted to be around each other all the time!
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together. (example: pushing each other to new limits, love to travel, huge comic book fans, foodies, etc.) What makes your relationship unique?
Matthew and I enjoy watching television and movies together. We just curl up on the couch or in our adjustable bed with our favorite snacks and binge watch. Our favorite show to watch right now is Power on Starz. We also enjoy talking about our future-kids, business plans, future investments, etc. There’s something about planning your future with the person you love most! We have two dogs who we treat like our kids so we spend a lot of time playing with them. Matt is very hands on and I am very creative so we like to do different fit projects together. We just recently redid old desk that I plan to use as a vanity. Matthew is so fun to be around so we could literally be doing nothing and we would enjoy ourselves.
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship? (these may often be the same moment, but aren’t always)
Matthew- Psalms 37;4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. I knew Raquel was the one because I prayed and asked God to send me a loving, beautiful, caring, God filled woman. I truly believe I have just that in Raquel. There was no certain moment. I just knew.
Raquel- I knew Matt was the one because he never made me feel like I had to dim my light for him. He has always been supportive and encouraging in everything that I’ve wanted to do. He is my biggest cheerleader. I’ve never had anybody have my back the way Matt does. I first realized this when I was being recognized for an award at work he came with me to the conference. He took so many pictures of me that night. He was so proud and made me feel so honored/loved. I knew then that I needed to keep him on my team.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
Matthew proposed while on a helicopter tour ride over La Jolla Beach in San Diego! The view was breathtaking I so was mesmerized by the beach, the cliffs, and the sea lions below that I almost didn’t realize when the pilot stopped talking. I heard Matthew’s voice on my headset and I was so shocked that I turned around really fast to tell him that he wasn’t supposed to be talking lol. When I turned around he had the ring out and asked me to be his wife. I was so overwhelmed with joy that I cried like a baby. I knew this moment was coming soon because Matt started talking about it more and more but that didn’t make it any less special. The day we got engaged was one of the happiest days of my life.

Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
We are very excited about the wedding! We have already gotten a lot done. We are going for a vintage romance vibe. The colors are different shades of blush, champagne, and gold. We are looking forward to the big day to see everything come together.
